Description

The Assistant Director of Engineering will be responsible for assisting the Director of Engineering maintaining the entire resort including the physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems and related equipment.  Acts in the absence of the Director of Engineering.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Operations

  • Responsible for assisting in the overall management of Engineering colleagues including training and development.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ensures the upkeep of the guest areas to maintain an attractive resort.
  • Responsible for assisting in conducting walk-throughs and visually assessing the efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structures of the resort mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other related equipment.
  • Maintaining familiarity with chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatments, pneumatics, boilers, refrigeration, compressors etc.
  • Oversees completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms and back of house spaces.
  • Monitors and trains all direct reports on current safety and sanitation polices and procedures that impact the resort.
  • Oversees completion of all repairs, replacement and renovation projects to offices and employee work areas.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance program.
  • Displays an understanding of public / guest / colleague safety, plus security of the resort, facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with all Head of departments.
  • Creates and ensures compliance of the maintenance request program.
  • Ensures Engineering colleagues are aware of fire procedures and ensure they attend regular training.
  • Is a qualified First Aider.
  • Ensures all guests are staying in a safe and secure environment.
  • Understands how to monitor CCTV and Security Cameras.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and trains all Engineering colleagues how to do the same.
  • Works as part of the Management Team to ensure all security and safety standards are adhered to by all colleagues throughout the resort.
  • Displays an ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
  • Oversees all shift activity, ensuring Engineering colleagues are meeting maintenance targets.
  • Monitors energy conservation controls and implements corrective action if needed.
  • Oversees any Engineering related incidents which arise on shift, keeping in mind the best interest of the hotel.
  • Ensures compliance with hotel and Engineering SOPs.
  • Maintains familiarity with hotel lock system and understands the importance of key control for effective security measures.
  • Ensures Supervisors are trained to scrutinize staff, analyze productivity and makes necessary recommendations to the Director of Engineering regarding both positive and negative actions by staff.
  • Ensures that all colleagues’ accidents/incidents receive immediate and professional First Aid treatment by the Security department.
  • Each colleague is expected to carry out all reasonable requests by management which the colleague is capable of performing.

  • Hires, develops and retains a diverse workforce to deliver excellent products and services.

  • Reviews Market Matrix and other data to identify areas of improvement; reviews results with colleagues to develop appropriate corrective action and ensures its implementation.
  • Develops, implements and maintains a departmental orientation program for colleagues to receive appropriate job skills training to successfully perform their jobs.
  • Develops, implements and manages job skills training initiatives for all colleagues and conducts training when appropriate.
  • Maintains the "Train The Trainer" program in conjunction with the Training Department.
  • In conjunction with the Training Department assists with, maintains and trains in accordance with the Quality Assurance standards.
  • Develops and maintains job descriptions for each position within department.
  • Communicates performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position and manages process.
  • Conducts colleague performance reviews according to Viceroy standard operating procedures.
  • Conducts performance review process for direct reports and develops business goals and appropriate development plans.
  • Develops and supports, through development and training, succession planning by identifying key department candidates for career growth.
  • Manages progressive discipline procedures for areas of responsibility.  Ensures hotel policies are administered fairly and consistently.  Ensures disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Corporate and Local Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Actively solicits colleague feedback, utilizes open door communication to all colleagues, reviews colleague market matrix to identify and address colleague problems or concerns.  Ensures colleagues are treated fairly and equitably.  Constantly strives to maintain and improve colleague retention.  Brings issues to the attention of Human Resources as necessary.
  • Celebrates successes and publicly recognizes the contributions of department colleagues, ensures recognition is taking place across areas of responsibility.  Maintains company colleague recognition programs.
  • Ensures self, direct report managers and colleagues attend appropriate training classes.
  • Observes service behaviors of colleagues and ensures that all uniformed colleagues are properly attired and groomed and wearing a name tag.
  • Ensures that all colleagues are wearing the correct health and safety attire at all times (to include but not exclusive to safety shoes, hair nets/hats, gloves).
  • Has a thorough understanding of HR requirements and local laws.
  • Is qualified in First Aid and CPR.

 

Financial

  • Monitors Engineering payroll budget ensuring that colleagues are working according to business needs.
  • Oversees the general maintenance of Engineering equipment to keep it safe and in good working condition and makes recommendations for upgrades/replacements.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Education/Experience:

 

  • An Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • An extensive background in Engineering and knowledge of Security, Risk Management with some experience of Surveillance Technology.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a similar position.
  • Caribbean experience preferred as is International experience.
  • Be familiar with chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatments, pneumatics, boilers, refrigeration, compressors etc.

Location: Viceroy Snowmass, Snowmass village, CO

Start Date: ASAP

Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Schedule: Flexible schedule, some nights, weekends and holidays required

Pay Rate: $80,000 - $85,000 per year
