Director of Purchasing

Position Summary:

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for the effective procurement, receiving, and inventory management of all goods and materials for the resort, with a primary focus on culinary and food & beverage operations. This position ensures the timely and cost-effective acquisition of products, supports operational efficiency through strategic purchasing practices, and enforces strict receiving and storage controls. The Director will work closely with the Executive Chef, Director of Finance, department heads, and vendors to ensure all purchasing aligns with budgetary goals, quality standards, and sustainability efforts appropriate for a luxury mountain resort.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Coordinate all purchasing functions with focus on food, beverage, dry goods, and supplies.
* Manage grocery and protein orders twice weekly based on occupancy and event forecasts.
* Maintain inventory and adjust par levels seasonally.
* Oversee receiving protocols including quality and temperature checks.
* Ensure accurate invoice coding and use of food cost tracking tools.
* Enforce "First In First Out" rotation and proper storage practices.
* Maintain updated product pricing and vendor relationships.
* Utilize Avendra platform and secure best pricing where applicable.
* Ensure compliance with food safety, storage, and procurement policies.

* Manage shipping and receiving all other items, including owner packages.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support periodic inventory counts and assist in end-of-month food cost reconciliation in partnership with Accounting and Culinary teams.
• Assist with vendor evaluations and participate in periodic product reviews or quality audits.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Housekeeping on non-culinary purchasing needs as required.
• Maintain documentation and records of purchasing procedures for auditing or inspection purposes.
• Participate in emergency planning or contingency sourcing efforts during weather-related delivery disruptions or supply shortages.
• Train backup staff on purchasing and receiving protocols as needed.
• Provide support during seasonal openings/closings or special resort events requiring bulk ordering.
• Collaborate with department leaders to forecast supply needs for new programs, menu changes, or renovations.
• Attend department head meetings and contribute to interdepartmental communication regarding procurement matters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management in alignment with operational needs.

  Pay Rate: 90,000 to 100,000 Salary

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospitality Management, or related field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years purchasing experience in hospitality or culinary operations.

Skills:

• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors in a fast-paced environment
• Strong vendor negotiation and inventory control skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and inventory systems.
• Familiarity with Avendra or similar purchasing platforms.
• Knowledge of food safety standards.
